Marbelous: Handmade Jewelry Inspires Friendship and a Better World

Marbelous

Today I’m very excited to share with you guys a company that is giving, loving, and super cute! Entrepreneurs come in all sizes, as is the case with the two 8-year-old best friends who started Marbelous, a handmade necklace business based in Brooklyn. Lutece and Tess, who dreamed of creating a company that revolved around art, friendship, and making the world a better place, are certainly off to a wonderful start! Marbelous donates 10% of their profits to Autism Speaks and are known for using cute catchphrases such as “how MARBELOUS” — could they be more LOVEly? :)

Each necklace is a unique symbol of fashion, giving, and spirit. Due to the handmade nature, each piece’s coloring is slightly different, making it unique to the individual who wears it. All the necklaces feature a hand-stamped M for “Marbelous” and come on either silk cord or suede lace, adding to their simple and chic charm. Many big names have been seen wearing Marbelous necklaces, including Amy Poehler, a comedian most well-known for her work on SNL and Parks and Recreation. Her Smart Girls Campaign collaborated with Marbelous to create a special edition Smart Girls necklace. The glow-in-the-dark neon yellow and black marble represent the Smart Girls logo as an homage to the light bulb!

Today marks the launch of their website, although the company has been operating through both in-person and mail-orders since May 2013. I was fortunate to buy one of their LOVE necklaces (limited edition), and I am absolutely enamored with it! Unlike the other necklaces, this one has the letters LOVE hand-stamped on the marble and now comes with a gold sliding bead, allowing you to adjust the length to your preference. I grabbed mine before they included the slider beads, but I love the length of the necklace, 36 inches, as-is! LOVE necklace by Marbelous | Rompadomp

Please be sure to check out Lutece and Tess’s amazing business and even grab one for yourself if you fall in love! For large orders of over 50 they can even create a one-of-a-kind design hand-stamped with custom initials just for you! How cool is that? Support art, friendship, and a better world. Hope you all have a MARBELOUS day! :) xo

Let’s Celebrate Love

Just Because

As we say goodbye to January today, many people’s minds wander to February and the upcoming holiday, Valentine’s Day. While some people love it and some people hate it, Valentine’s Day is ultimately about letting your loved ones know how much you care. So instead of focusing on this singular holiday, let’s celebrate February as a month of love. Call your mom and let her know that you appreciate her for everything she’s done for you, including that time you got sick after eating Spaghetti-O’s (sorry, mom!). Text your best friend and tell her that you appreciate all the times she’s been there for you when you were feeling really depressed and alone. Let your grandma know how she inspired you to become the woman you are today, strong and passionate. Let’s celebrate this month of love together and make the world we live in a little more lovely.

So When You’re Cold…

So When You're Cold Quote

In case you haven’t heard, it’s cold. Very cold. Record-breaking cold for this time of year. Every social media site has been blowing up with my friends and followers alerting me to this fact. But we shouldn’t let the cold outside affect what we feel on the inside.

Winter is a very complex time of the year, when many people suffer from seasonal depression and sadness. It’s also when many people stay tucked away in their homes and become recluses. Let’s try something different together this year — let’s make an effort to be more connected.

January is the perfect time to take stock of your life. Haven’t worn those clothes all year? Donate them. Feeling unhealthy from all the holiday meals? Set up a workout schedule. Haven’t set up a Skype date with you BFF in awhile? Call her up.

This year let’s try to become more loving, healthier, kinder, and, most importantly, let’s make an effort to communicate better. Why are we afraid to call up our friends on the phone? Why do we fear being called a “creeper” if we post comments on old Facebook photos? Why don’t we share our thoughts when something touches our lives us in some way? Share the warmth of your friendship (starting now!) and your heart will keep you warm during this cold spell and on into 2014.

Pinspiration: Midnight Blue

I’ve been living in my winter nail polish shades, one of my favorites of which is Essie’s Bobbing for Baubles. It’s a modern take on the classic black, supplying a small amount of color that appears flattering on all skin tones and looks both professional and fun.

More Accessories Based on Klimt's "The Kiss"

More Accessories Based on Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss”

If you’ve been following my posts on College Fashion, you’ll probably know that I did a post featuring outfits based on Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss”, which had a great reception! Not only is the painting completely gorgeous with its touches of romantic art nouveau, but I picked out some really feminine outfits that compliment any girl’s figure for the quickly approaching Valentine’s Day!
I ended up finding so many unique and interesting pieces that were inspired by Klimt. Here are a few more that didn’t quite fit the bill for my original post, but that I definitely think are worth mentioning and ogling over!More Accessories Based on Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss"
If you haven’t checked out my posts at College Fashion, you definitely should! Every two weeks I post a series of outfits based on a piece of art that I think is inspiring. Be sure to check out some of the other posts while you’re there, too — they also do fashion posts inspired by books, movie, and more! Definitely something fun to look over if you’re tired of your “same old, same old” wardrobe!
